Your Ceremony & The Legals
Planning your ceremony should feel exciting—not overwhelming. I’ll guide you through each step, explain the choices clearly and take care of the legal paperwork.
Notice of Intended Marriage
A Notice of Intended Marriage must generally be lodged with an authorised celebrant at least one month before your wedding. Once properly completed, the notice remains valid for 18 months. I’ll help you complete it correctly and explain the identification and supporting documents you may need.
Before the Wedding
Closer to your ceremony, you’ll both sign a Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage. We’ll also confirm the ceremony details, legal vows, names and your two witnesses, who must both be at least 18 years old.
On the Wedding Day
I’ll include the legally required words, guide you through the legal vows and have all marriage documents ready for signing. Brenda and I arrive early so everything is organised before the ceremony begins.
After the Ceremony
I’ll lodge your marriage documents with Births, Deaths and Marriages within the required timeframe. I’ll also organise your official marriage certificate and have it sent to your nominated address. That’s one less major thing for you to worry about.
Your Wedding Resource Kit
Once you book, you’ll receive my Wedding Resource Kit. It is filled with ceremony ideas, vows, readings, music suggestions and helpful information to guide you through every stage of planning. It makes creating a ceremony that genuinely reflects you simple, enjoyable and far less overwhelming.
The Legal Requirements
Your ceremony will include:
• My name and role as your authorised celebrant
• Your full names
• The Monitum—the legal definition of marriage under Australian law
• The legal vows spoken by each of you
• Two witnesses aged 18 or older
• The signing of the required marriage documents
I’ll explain all of this in plain language and make sure every requirement is completed correctly.
